There I was minding my own business, drinking my coffee, and chipping away at a Sudoku when I caught a father in the act of good parenting. Oh my! He actually seized a teachable moment to help teach his young daughter about what a firefighter is and what he does.
Father and daughter were in line waiting to pay for their drinks. A firefighter in full gear was standing in line as well. He asked the firefighter to explain to his daughter what all of his gear was and how it is used. Now this may not seem like much, but to his little girl, it meant quite a bit. Today she learned that she can trust firefighters to help and even save her. She also learned that her father will take time teach her who is safe to talk to.
I was most impressed with how generous the firefighter was with his time. He demonstrated how to use his various ropes/lines and shared how he saves lives. I wish I could have asked his name before he left. But, as it is many times, he and his fellow officer had to leave quickly on a call. At least, I have his picture here.
Bravo, Sasha for being such a great father!

Hi Rebecca,
) See you soon, Meanwhile I will be out there looking for more of those teachable moments of my own.
Missed you at Nugget when I zoomed through (avoiding the weds. teen crowd) yesterday. i think the fire fighter in the picture looks like a fellow named Blas Ayalla. I remember him from when my older son was into visiting the fire station, and yes, he is a nice guy. Seems like they all are! Loved the post
